SWIM/Goldilock Breast Reconstruction

As a breast cancer specialists, we do more than provide safe and life-saving oncology treatments. We also focus our efforts on improving cosmetic outcomes and patient satisfaction.

Advanced SWIM and nipple-sparing techniques allow women with different breast cancer types to conserve their breasts or regain a more natural look after surgery. Breast reconstruction not only improves the outward appearance after mastectomy but can also give women a significant self-confidence boost.

The original Goldilocks mastectomy is a single-stage, skin-sparing procedure that removes breast cancer while using remaining skin and subcutaneous fat to create a natural-looking, smaller breast mound without implants. It is ideal for patients with large, ptotic (droopy) breasts seeking a smaller, shaped, non-flat result with fewer complications. National Institutes of Health (NIH) | (.gov) +5 Dr. Lee specializes in sparing the nipples as well to make the breasts look as natural as possible.

Dr. June Lee is a published author in the world’s largest series on Nipple Sparing Goldilocks Mastectomy in a prestigious surgical journal. Read her work here.

Now over 500 cases of experience, Dr. June Lee offers this cutting edge procedure for patients with or without breast disease, who may be at high risk, including genetic mutation, or family history of breast cancer.

Key Aspects of the Goldilocks Technique:

Procedure

Combines a skin-sparing mastectomy with a tissue-rearrangement technique (often a Wise pattern/anchor incision, sometimes just a Benelli pattern/donut incision) to create a new, smaller, and elevated breast mound.

Tissue Use

Utilizes redundant inferior tissue and skin to create the mound, avoiding the need for artificial implants or distant flap transfers.

Candidates

Specifically designed for women with macromastia (large breasts) or significant ptosis, and those who are not candidates for or do not desire complex reconstruction.

Benefits

Much lower complication risk compared to implants, shorter operating time (approx. 1.5-2.5hours, outpatient), and avoids a completely flat chest.

Results

Provides a "middle-of-the-road" option, resulting in a smaller breast mound that can be further enhanced with fat grafting later if desired.
