“In March 2009, after having a routine mammography I was informed that I needed to see a breast surgeon due to an abnormality on my mammogram. My gynecologist referred me to Dr. June Lee in Smithtown. I was sure there must be some mistake, this wasn’t happening to me. I was able to get an appointment the next day with Dr. Lee and she treated me with the utmost care and compassion. Dr. Lee reviewed my mammography in detail and explained what she saw. She said that I would need to have a biopsy to see what was going on. I had the biopsy the following week, and met with Dr. Lee a few days later. Unfortunately, I was informed that I had breast cancer. She explained to me in detail, what my options were. She spent a lot of time with me, as if I was the only one in the office! Her staff was equally patient with me and did not rush me out of the office. I had so many options to choose from, which one was the right one for me? I was so upset and confused. At the time, the treatment recommended for me was going to be a lumpectomy and then six weeks of radiation. I asked if I should get a second opinion, and they said that it was the right thing to do. Not only did Dr. Lee assure and support my decision to get another perspective, I will tell you that I felt very safe and comfortable with Dr. Lee and her staff. They answered all my questions with patience and understanding of what I was going through. I did feel like I was in good hands. After going through what was an extremely long, procedural, and unpleasant experience in seeking a second opinion at a highly recommended hospital, I was 100% sure that I was doing the right thing having Dr. Lee perform my surgery. We scheduled the surgery the following month. Dr. Lee has been outstanding in her surgical skills and her compassion afterwards. Her staff is equally compassionate and caring. I would recommend Dr. Lee as she is a wonderful surgeon and a wonderful person. She definitely cares about what she is doing.”
